I have heard pro-lifers criticize Bush on his pro-life stance, saying that "he hasn't done much" for the movement. I've also heard PHC'ers, on the message board, support John Kerry for president because they claim he will provide the check in powers we need (supposedly with John Kerry as president and a majority of Republicans in the Senate, there is a balance of powers). However, think again. John Kerry's choices will affect this country long after he is out of office, if he appoints Supreme Court Justices.
Pro-life conservatives cannot afford to support John Kerry or a third party candidate. Even Kerry recognizes Bush's gains in the pro-life movement. I think it's time the conservatives start supporting their president more. We have to be unified.
From John Kerry's website -
John Kerry will protect a woman's right to choose by opposing judicial nominees who refuse to uphold Roe v. Wade.
Kerry believes that women have the right to control their own bodies. He believes that the Constitution protects a woman's right to choose and to make their reproductive choices in consultation with their doctor, their conscience, and their God. As Senator, Kerry promised to filibuster any Supreme Court nominee who would "turn back the clock on a woman's right to choose or the constitutional right to privacy, on civil rights and individual liberties and on the laws protecting workers and the environment." Based on this commitment to protecting women's rights, NARAL and Planned Parenthood gave Kerry a perfect 100 percent rating for his strong voting record. As president, John Kerry will fight Congressional attempts to chip away at a woman's right to choose, and he will only appoint judges who would uphold Roe v. Wade. George Bush consistently appoints judges who want to turn back the clock on a woman's right to choose.Bush has said that he wants to appoint more lifetime justices in the mold of Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, the two most anti-choice justices on the Supreme Court. Just this year, Bush nominated Alabama Attorney General William Pryor to the appeals court, even though Pryor stated that Roe v. Wade was "the worst abomination of constitutional law in our history." To make matters worse, he claimed that the landmark decision "ripped the Constitution and ripped out the life of millions of unborn children." When the Senate blocked Pryor's confirmation, Bush took the extraordinary step of installing him on the court during a Congressional recess without the Senate's approval.
